In this book, Lady Augusta Colebrook and her twin sister Lady Julia, who society consider well past their prime, work together to rescue women in need of rescuing in high society England during the early 1800s. Their rescue missions place them in some seriously life-threatening situations, society damaging places, along with introducing them to some attractive, and dangerous men.

This book is historical fiction, with some mystery, adventure, and romance. It is based on the lives of two main unsuspecting characters who happen to be twin sisters. The stories are filled with murder, mystery, adventure, and romance. The book dives into the subjects of feminism and women’s rights.

The two main characters are very likeable twin sisters. Lady Augusta is bold, adventurous, reckless, and a bit of a renegade! She has a passion to help save people and a tendency towards swearing. She is sworn to secrecy concerning her sister’s health condition. Her younger twin sister Julia has exemplary manners, knows everyone’s connections, has a wonderful memory, a passion for art, and is extremely fashionable! Julia is also dealing with a health condition of her breast.

In this book the sisters work together on three separate rescue missions. Their first mission was to rescue Millicent Defray from her house where she is a prisoner at the hands of her husband Sir Reginald Thorne who intends to murder her because she has not provided him with and heir. On their second mission the sisters set out to rescue Marie-Jean, a young girl who was kidnapped from an orphanage to be put took work entertaining men in a brothel. Their third mission of this book is to rescue Lord Evan’s sister Hester from an Asylum where she had been placed by her other brother Deele after sexually abusing her.

I enjoyed reading about the adventures of these two sisters as they set out rescuing those in need of rescuing. The relationship between twin sisters with such opposite personalities felt both realistic and entertaining. I’m looking forward to reading more about the adventures of Lady Agusta and Lady Julia in the sequel

If you enjoy the mysteries of Agatha Christie and the characters of Jane Austen, I expect you will find this book very entertaining. On a 1 to 5 scale, I award this book with 4 stars.
