Marilee Eatough Editorial Logo - five books, a pot with a piece lily, and a stack of two books with glasses on top

Hello, I'm Marilee.

I am a reader, writer, and editor currently living in the Pacific Northwest with my husband David. In my free time I enjoy discussing literature with my book club, creating scrapbooks, making cards, and researching my family history.

Reader

My mother taught me to read at the young age of three. I’ve had a love of books for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I remember being fascinated with The Little House book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Nancy Drew book series by Carolyn Keene. As a child, my favorite after school activity was to stop at the library and check out an armful of books. I learned that books could take me to any place or time and could teach me about anything! It is my love of reading and my dislike of seeing errors in print that directed me to my current position as an editor. My favorite genres to read include fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, adventure, and mystery.

Writer

I have always enjoyed writing. However, I did not know that I had talent in this area until I won a contest in elementary school for writing about my dream of becoming a nurse. However, I quickly forgot about that ambition as soon as I learned about bedpans! While attending college I served as a writer and then as an editor for my college year book the Rixida. I thought that I might enjoy a career in communications, so I took some journalism classes and wrote for The Daily Universe. When I returned home for the summer, I worked as a reporter for my hometown paper the Mohave Valley News. After graduating from college, I began my job at Shelton Marketing Communications. My favorite responsibilities at this firm were writing and editing for clients. Since this first job out of college, I’ve held a variety of positions including that of a stay-home-mom. Projects I have worked on include academic papers, business communications, professional journals, newsletters, memoirs, and cookbooks.

Editor

Although I love to read and write I also enjoy helping others to improve their written words. I currently work as an independent editor helping my clients share their stories, knowledge, and ideas. My favorite subject matter to edit is that of personal and family histories. This usually entails working with memoirs, biographies, and autobiographies. When editing these subjects, I find it is especially important to retain the author’s individual style and voice. I can help you create a better reader experience by recommending ways you can improve the quality of your manuscript. If you are interested in hiring me as an editor feel free to contact me.
